Description

Reductions in child mortality during the millennium development goal era have been remarkable, yet 6 million deaths occur around birth annually. Achieving the goals of the Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths, and stillbirths requires high quality, equitable coverage of interventions at and around the time of birth.

This technical briefing marks the launch of the Every Woman, Every Newborn supplement for BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth; a new set of in-depth analyses which focus on the specific challenges to scaling up high-impact interventions and improving quality of care for mothers and newborns around the time of birth.

Several key authors from the supplement are able to present this work, including Professor Joy Lawn (LSHTM) and Kim Dickson (UNICEF), and will discuss programme-relevant analyses of the challenges and solutions to health system bottlenecks using data from 12 high-burden countries. We close the briefing by presenting the ENAP measurement improvement roadmap, an ambitious plan drawing on analysis and multi-partner inputs, to improve metrics and accountability for mothers and newborns, particularly tracking coverage, quality and equity.

Event will include presentations from key authors followed by discussion and drinks reception
